Tips to plan a shoestring living in Phuket

Phuket was once known a haven for backpackers travelling around the world with only a handful of baht in their pockets. With rapid increase in popularity, the prices on the island have risen dramatically for Phuket Home for sale and tourism. However, this doesn’t mean living a backpacker dream to Phuket should be miles away. Let’s see a few tips how to survive in the island without breaking the bank.

The biggest expense during any trip to Phuket is usually accommodation. Most of the resorts and hotels all over the island are highly priced here. Infact, spa tourism is also popular in Phuket but what if you need a roof to warm up yourself? Also, if you’re after a cheap guesthouse to use as a base in Phuket there are several options.

Phuket Town is a sleepy place and there are several decent Phuket Apartments for sale offering beds for a few hundred baht a night. This island has got a few famous places and Patong is undeniably one among the best. Truth be told, yes... most things are expensive but if you shop around it’s still possible to find reasonable guesthouse accommodation. The area is full of people and street hawkers so I wouldn’t suggest a stay in Patong for backpacker ideal.

Secondly, everyone has to eat, even backpackers. The glitzy restaurants over here serve up all manner of international bites- so forget it.  If you are so anxious to eat like a king for less than 200 baht a day you can choose to only sample the delights of Thai street food. Despite some great treats offered here, noodles and rice make up the staple part of the meals.  It’s just the matter of walking around to find a street vendor selling the type of food you want.

Be adventurous and experiment a little. This lets the locals eat your money. Believe it or not, you’ll be paying at least 10 times as much in most restaurants around the island. Taxis are out of the question if you’re on a tight budget.  The best option is to buy a map and rent a motorbike for a couple of hundred baht a day. Anyway, fuel isn’t that expensive and having your own wheels makes all the difference to explode.
